The Nuclear Policy Initiative is the FPI’s most recent contribution to an established legacy of shaping nuclear policy debates.  Under the leadership of Deepti Choubey, a nuclear policy expert with a track record of delivering real-world outcomes reducing nuclear dangers, the Nuclear Policy Initiative is FPI’s hub for original research and analysis on international nuclear policy, building and extending the capacity of the Washington diplomatic community on current nuclear issues, and advancing policy debates on nuclear and other contemporary challenges. For instance, the Nuclear Policy Initiative to date has convened a series of Nuclear Security Roundtables, partnering with the Meridian International Center, and involving diplomats from the 53 countries participating in the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit hosted by the United States and experts from nuclear industry and non-governmental organizations to enhance understanding of nuclear security issues and Nuclear Security Summits.  Recent leading-edge policy products include the 2015 FPI Policy Brief, Toward Disarmament Securely: Clarifying the Nuclear Security and Disarmament Link, authored by Deepti Choubey and launched in April 2015 in Washington, DC and briefed subsequently in Vienna, Austria and at the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Review Conference at the United Nations in New York. The Nuclear Policy Initiative will focus on approaches for restoring and revitalizing the international nuclear regime.
