Postdoctoral Fellow on Sino-Latin American-U.S. Affairs

Benjamin Creutzfeldt

 

Dr. Benjamin Creutzfeldt was appointed Resident Postdoctoral Fellow on Sino-Latin American-U.S. Affairs with the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute in August 2016. A China scholar of German and British extraction, he has been a lecturer for Chinese studies and international relations in Colombia for the past eight years.

 

Creutzfeldt graduated with a B.A. (Honours) in Chinese Studies with Japanese from the University of Durham/UK and earned his M.A. from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, whereupon he joined Christie’s as an auctioneer and expert for Chinese porcelain and works of art.  He has studied and worked extensively in China over the past two decades, and has co-founded and managed multiple start-up companies and projects. He received his PhD in political studies in 2015 for research on China’s foreign policy towards Latin America, under the supervision of Qin Yaqing (China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing) and Matt Ferchen (Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy, Beijing). He is the author of numerous articles and editor of the book China en América Latina: reflexiones sobre las relaciones transpacíficas (Bogota, 2012).

 

Creutzfeldt is also a Research Fellow of the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations and a visiting professor at the International School for Economics and Management at the Universidad de la Sabana, Bogota, Colombia. He is a member of the Red ALC-China network based at UNAM University in Mexico, a member of the International Studies Association (ISA), the Latin American Studies Association (SOAS), and the Association for Chinese Political Studies (ACPS).
